This tool should be used like you would a brush: slow, soft strokes, and you will feel the tool grab the hair. Make sure before using the de-shedding tool your dog is brushed and combed out and free from mats. The regular can be used on coat like a Golden Retriever. The fine tooth should be used on the length of hair like a Labrador Retriever. Andis offers two different De-Shedders depending on the length of hair your dog has. A de-shedding tool will remove all the dead under coat that needs to come out. I would not recommend shaving a double coated breed. When the weather starts to get warmer, removing this under coat will help your dog keep cooler and help them regulate their body temperature. The undercoat is what keeps them warm in the winter think of it as insulation. ![]() Your dog has a top coat and an under coat. ![]() Andis makes a De-Shedding tool that will help remove all the dead undercoat.
